ASSISTANT PRODUCER Wanted

for THEATRE TOUR & CoMMUNITY PROJECT The Jane Austen Fan Club

Written by Victoria Briggs & Lucy Mellors, this new show features books, bonnets, and a lifesize cardboard cutout of Colin Firth.

'The Jane Austen Fan Club' will rehearse at Wiltshire Creative (Salisbury) and Forest Forge (Ringwood) 12-24 January. Production Week at Lighthouse Poole 26-30 January. A South West tour of theatres and libraries is programmed 31 January - mid-March 2026.

In November and December 2025, alongside the development of the script and recruitment of the creative team, a mass community embroidery project is taking place. We’re working with women and girls across the South West to embroider a massive banner for the touring show, while eating cake and having a chat.

We would love to meet producers who are keen to develop their professional experience and skills, and who share our passion for creating funny, accessible, feminist work.

This is an opportunity for an early-career producer (or perhaps someone returning to the industry after some time out) to develop their knowledge and skills, while making a valuable contribution to the team.

The role is paid at a rate of £12.60 per hour / £113.40 per day (based on the Real Living Wage) for 10 days across the project. There can be flexibility about how the Assistant Producer works the days/hours required, in order to fit around both the needs of the project, and your other responsibilities.

Some work would be completed remotely, and some in-person at rehearsal/tour venues. For this reason, it’s desirable that the Assistant Producer is able to drive and has access to their own vehicle, as some tour venues are inaccessible by public transport.

Our ideal Assistant Producer will have the following skills & attributes:

Essential

  • excellent communication skills

  • excellent organisation and administrative skills

  • ability to self-motivate and complete tasks independently

  • some experience of theatre producing - this might be recently or a long while ago, it might or might not be professional experience

  • a passion for creating high quality feminist work

  • an enthusiasm for small-scale touring, including to non-theatre spaces

  • desire to create inclusive and accessible theatre

Desirable

  • driving license (preferably with access to own vehicle)

  • based within 25 miles of Ringwood, Hampshire, or Salisbury, Wiltshire

  • love of Jane Austen’s work (you don’t need to have read all the books!)

We welcome applications from producers of all ages and backgrounds. We're committed to making any reasonable adjustments you may require for any part of the recruitment process or to support you in your role. We are particularly keen to hear from those from the global majority / underrepresented in the theatre sector.
